We are glad to present you a squad which project began in 28th of May in 2002 with the name of "Underworld Preachers 2002" whose tag is -=[uP]. Everything started with one single game, Unreal Tournament (UT). This group of friends who played UT was formed by the best players from the best portuguese squads at that moment. This project’s founders were three and they are known as :"EnyGmatiK" (Tiago Fernandes), "d3fault" (Igor Fernandes) and "Opako" (Paulo Lima). At that time their objective was to build a “multigaming” squad. Although they thought their project could never reach such a high and competitive level squad as we are now.
At that time we had some invites to merge with other “multigaming” squads, as we were, in terms of divisions number, a small squad, with fewer conditions than the others, a great invite could not be ignored, so uP merged with a “multigaming” squad, the “Unuseless”. This connection lasted a small period of time because both squads objectives were diferent. We wanted to grow up as a “multigaming squad”.

After breaking this arrangement, we continued with more strength and happiness to accomplish our first objectives. Our three main founders had to leave due to educational, professional or personal reasons. But… don’t think we were finished right there. Our will to acomplish their objectives and dreams was huge, so two squad members picked up the lead of the squad and are still our leaders until now: “//miSoul” (Amilcar Araújo) and “//rmag3ddon” (Telmo Silva). Our objective as leaders wasn’t to create as many divisions as possible without checking if we were developing this group of friends. We wanted to give more importance to the will of making new friendships, responsibility and organization in these new divisions, so we can grow up and learn more as “online gamers”. With all this our players will feel good to play in and for “uP”, creating great friendship’s and making our members feel a love emotion when playing with “uP t-shirt”; and with a enthusiasm between the members, our “team play” will appear and increase more and more.

Like everything in life, we had to work hard to achieve what we want and what we are at this moment. It’s difficult to keep more than 100 members motivated and everyone with different ages, personalities and personal lifes. Sometimes there are also some problems with members, however everything is solved well and continue growing up and making us a big family by the name of “Underworld Preachers 2002”. To know to coexist) is also important in a squad because since we exist we have been seeing with sadness the ending of some squads with great potential and that someday could become high skilled and top-rated squads. Due to this we thought establishing a solid and organized structure is fundamental to stop this sad vicious cycle.

Another important summit is the facts that “uP” players have lots of participation and a presence in some “online structures” such as national team captain, national team player, forum moderators, “GSP” (Game Server Provider) enterprises administrators, LAN and meeting’s organizers.

After all this internal growth with solid grounds and defined objectives, we decided to move forward with some of the projects that we had in mind, some are already in progress, others are still waiting due to the lack of external support, or ,in other words the lack of the thing that moves the world, money. Even with all those financial difficulties, we’re managing to push forward with a project called "uP|School” that has an objective to help all those players that enter the online gaming world with the will to blend in and be at the level of the rest of the players existing in the community. With this project we intend to help solving the initial difficulties (in the game, problems with the operative system, conflicts of "software" or "hardware" and etc). We have several people demonstrating interest in this project, many are friends of an “uP” clan member but also, and happily for us most of the youngsters that come to us and hear about this project, are people that were unaware of our clan and look at this as a chance to learn and to carry through their objectives in the online world quicker. Despite their “ignorance” in the beginning all the doubts or problems are important and difficult to solve, we all have thought that, some with the luck of having a friend to help and others that having no such luck, now have this chance to get help, all they have to do for that is appear at the clan’s channels (#uP|Clan & #uP|School), in PTnet or Quakenet (irc.quakenet.org) and get in touch with one of the leaders ("AmiSoul - mail: [email protected]" or "Armag3ddon - mail: [email protected]") or consulting the clan's "web page" (http://www.upgaming-hq.com).

After a little introduction and ideas of the clan, let’s now talk about two very desired aspects, results and actual conditions or the lack of them:
From our point of view we are getting excellent results, both national and international, we would like to reach further and i believe that we will indeed some day, but due to less favourable conditions that exist in Portugal, in terms of internet connections (ADSL, Cable or others), it becomes difficult for the online players to compete with clans from other countries like Sweden, Germany, England, Holland and lately France, among others. In a certain way we can say that in terms of internet connection (ISP'S), Portugal belongs almost to the third world and nothing but the great will and determination of the Portuguese players has given some joys in international competitions. Looking globally to the isp's in Portugal we can see a great improvement due to the increase of the market, with the appearance of new isp's and technologies. We must recognize that some important steps have been made, but still it misses a long way so that the Portuguese "online gamers" can take greater advantage of the excellent existing capacities of organization in many Portuguese clans. We believe that in our country much is made in competitive terms, on online games, looking at the conditions that we have actually, so the "Cyber-Olympics" and all the potential of the online games (at this moment it covers ages from 10 to 50), has to start to catch the attention of companies and/or business men that are ambitious and have the sensitivity to recognize that. If in a near future this becomes a reality, the increase of quality in terms of conditions for the online community will be given, since in terms of quantity we testify an enormous growth to each day that passes.
